Bible Basics - Old Testament (BBLB-OT)
This class is a bird's eye view of the contents of the Old Testament. When you take a bird's eye view it changes your perspective on a lot of things. This survey will increase your understanding of the Word of God and give you a renewed sense of awe for Him.
This class will demonstrate the relevance of the Old Testament to the New Testament believer. 1 Corinthians 10:11 states, "Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come." God is so interested in the generations of the latter days that He inspired people to write the Word, to recopy it, to hide it from evildoers and even die for the preservation of it. He is so interested in you as an individual that He has allowed others to go before you to show you His way and have it recorded in the Holy Scriptures.
This class endeavours to help you understand Old Testament History in a holistic manner so as to broaden your understanding of how God intervenes in the affairs of humanity. The class will give you a broader base of knowledge of God's Word so you can share the Word more effectively when ministering to others.

Christian Maturity (CHRMATR)
It was Jesus who established the five-fold ministry Gifts. The very reason, according to Ephesians 4:11-13, was so that each of us could reach unity in our faith and knowledge of Christ. The same passage (verse 13) tells us that we are to become mature.
Christian maturity is the ever-present goal for each of us as believers. It is not something that automatically comes with age, nor is it something that we ever fully attain, but it is demonstrated in the character of every believer.
This class is practical in nature; it points out how you may progress toward Christlikeness in daily living and service. Biblical illustrations and Bible-centered lessons will provide you with material for use in your own life. You will identify both hindrances and helps to your spiritual growth, and learn to receive the Holy Spirit’s help as you move toward your Christian maturity.

Disciple Making (DISCMKG)
It is well known that Jesus has commissioned His followers to "Go and make disciples of all nations." But how exactly should we do that?
- Is it something that happens automatically, or does it require a conscious, deliberate effort on our part?
- Is there a biblical pattern for us to follow?
- What is "mentoring" and does it have anything to do with disciple making?
The Disciple Making class will address those questions and more. You will find that disciple making is not only an activity that is open to every believer in Christ — it should be the second most important pursuit of every Christian. Disciple making has been called "the master plan of evangelism." It was designed and modelled by Jesus to be the only means for us to extend His abundant life to every person and people group on earth. It's a major part of what we were born (and born again) for.
By the time you finish this class you will know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you CAN be a disciple maker. You CAN be one who receives and passes on what it takes to live victoriously in Christ. And you CAN see proceed from your life a multiplication of fruit beyond what you ever dreamed possible.

You will be equipped to advance the kingdom by learning how Jesus did it!
You will also learn techniques that work well in North America for sharing your faith.

Gospel of John (GOSJHN1, GOSJHN2)
The Gospel of John has to be the most amazing Gospel ever written. It was authored by the man who is known as the disciple whom Jesus loved. This gives us a real clue as to the intimacy of this work that was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. What a privilege it is to be able to now sit at the feet of Jesus and read the words written by John, a man who had such intimate knowledge of our Lord.
This Gospel is so full of God in so many ways that it inspires me every time I read it! Think about it: even in the first few verses is packed the essence of the pre-existent, everlasting, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God!!! "In the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1 NASB). Right from the get-go John profoundly, poetically, amazingly uses such awesome language that it sets forth Jesus as equal to God.
Eternal life is so clearly taught through this book. The hope of its writer is that we might believe, and that in believing we would be saved!
This class will look at the major divisions of the book and discuss them in as much detail as time affords. Due to the intimate nature of this writing, you will be encouraged to draw near to the Lord by what you discover in this class.

Holy Spirit (HLYSPIR)
How can one teach a class on the Holy Spirit? This is such a stretch for even a seasoned ministry to enter into! The Holy Spirit is so awesome and so beyond us in many ways that to talk about Him and/or to teach about Him seems like an untouchable subject. He is holy, as His name indicates, so to even think of this class, let alone teach it or take it, puts a holy fear deep within!
To examine the Holy Spirit is to examine ourselves, for the closer we come to Him, the more of ourselves is revealed to us. May we, like Isaiah, see ourselves so much more clearly for what we really are — woe is us for we are a people of unclean lips! However, the cleansing power of the Lord will wash away every stain if we but confess ours sins. He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Yet there is more than conviction; there is also fellowship. Our desire is that we discover the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. In His presence is fullness of joy and at His right hand are pleasures for evermore! May we be those who come to Jesus and receive of the comfort and fellowship of the Holy Spirit; may we begin our journey fully anticipating that we will discover the newness of the Spirit and the power and fellowship of His presence!

Intimacy with God (INTwGOD)
The emphasis of this class will be on developing the student’s personal relationship with Jesus and a passion for His presence. It is out of one’s personal relationship with the Lord that all ministry and evangelism flows. Who you are on your knees before God is who you are, and nothing more. This class will motivate you to be more intimate with your Heavenly Father, spending time in the disciplines of prayer, worship, fasting, meditation and reading the Word. It will help you get to know the Lord more fully as you learn to make time for God in your life, waiting in His presence and listening to His voice.

Leadership 1 (LDRSHP1)
This class will explore the nature of leadership by looking at biblical and historical case studies. Studying past leaders in God's kingdom will enable us to identify developmental phases, patterns, processes and principles used by God to shape a leader's inner being for effective leadership. In this way we will analyse the relationship of leadership to effective Christian ministry.
The class will further address the need to transform leadership as we progress into the 21st century. By identifying changes in the church and the secular world we will gain insight into what kind of leadership will be needed to meet those changes.

Leadership 2 (LDRSHP2)
We live in times when leaders in all sectors of life have fallen. Most leadership failures are due to character flaws. Therefore it is imperative that we deal with the leadership concerns that have to do with character development.
We tend to be wowed by gifting and charisma and promote people based on those things, thinking they are and will be great leaders. However, gifting without character can often be a disastrous combination. In this class you will see why character is so crucial for a leader. We will look at various character traits specifically and discuss some ways you can develop godly character. This class is so critical for the body of Christ, because the Church is only as strong as the leaders who lead it.

Mind Wars (MNDWAR1, MNDWAR2)
This class is broken into three parts:
Part 1 will look at two opposing worldviews — biblical and non-biblical. As well, it will ask fundamental questions such as, "Who is man? Who is God? What is truth?" It will give you biblical grounding to help you when you're faced with the various ideas, beliefs and subtle persuasion that are so prevalent in our society. This is beneficial for both you and those who cross your path, as you'll be able to lovingly direct them towards truth.
Part 2 will look at major world religions and cults. You will be presented with the core beliefs of each religion and how it fares when compared to Scripture. How to share the gospel with a person of a differing religion will also be explored.
Part 3 will look at modern day controversial topics from a Christian perspective. Topics covered will be divorce, tolerance, homosexuality and the sanctity of life.

It is a must for anyone interested in being a church leader, as many of the principles discussed apply to all types of Christian leadership.

Relating and Ministering Cross-Culturally (CRSCLTR)
Cross-cultural communication is necessary for Christians because the commission we have received from the Lord Jesus Christ is cross-cultural. Christians are to go to all nations and from all nations make disciples of Jesus Christ.
In our time the world has become small due to improved travel capabilities and global communication. We have no excuse for not sharing the Gospel with people of other nations, whether we remain in our own country or go abroad.
As we share the gospel cross-culturally, we need to be sensitive to culture so we don’t simply transport our culture to the target group. We have the task of understanding the message we preach in the cultural context it was written, interpret it in the context of our own culture and then transmit it to another culture in a way that is relevant to that culture’s context.

Relationships (RLTNSPS)
It has been said that every problem in the world is a relationship problem. That statement sounds radical, but the more you think about it, the more you realize how accurate it is. Your ability to establish and maintain healthy relationships determines whether you contribute to the world’s problems or to the solution of those problems.
Once you are solid in your relationship with God you are in a position to relate properly to other people. The Bible is filled with practical instruction on how to relate to our fellowman. You will explore those principles during this class with ample challenge and opportunities to put into practice what you learn. You are in for an exciting, life-changing time!

You will also discover keys to living an overcoming life.

Every chapter and verse in the book of Romans is covered, and you are introduced to many different theological terms. You will also be drawn into grappling with some theological concepts that theologians have debated for centuries. Through it all, the greatness and profound wisdom of God will be displayed.

Spiritual Gifts (SPIRGFT)
In 1 Corinthians 12:1 Paul encourages believers not to be ignorant concerning spiritual gifts, but to be informed and discover their spiritual gifts so they can function within the context of the Body of Christ. It is God's will that His children should operate under the anointing of God to be a blessing to one another and to be powerful witnesses to the lost world, concerning Christ.
This class will group, define and examine the different types of spiritual gifts the Bible teaches about:
- The fivefold ministry gifts;
- Other gifts; and...
- Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
The importance of the context of the Body of Christ will be emphasized and proper recognition and appreciation of it will be encouraged. Further, the class will cover how to receive, flow in and judge spiritual gifts.

Spiritual Warfare (SPIRWAR)
These are days of battle as we engage the enemy in a warfare for our homes, our church, our city and our nation. We need to know our enemy, his strategy, his weapons and his methods of attack. We also need to know who we are in God, our weapons and our methods of offence and defence.
This class will cause us to know the authority we have in prayer and inspire us to do spiritual warfare and intercession. We will be discussing our role as watchmen, prophetic intercession, the breaking of strongholds, winning mind battles and laying siege to a city through prayer. An added feature of this class will be guest speakers such as Dave Wells, Katherine Gagne, Dean Smith and, by videotape, Bob Larson and Cindy Jacobs.

Teaching & Preaching (TEACHNG)
Does it surprise you that public speaking has been found to be the number one fear of the majority of people? Yet at the end of His life here on Earth, Jesus called all Christians to "...preach the gospel to all creation" (Mark 16:15b). The one who "taught with authority" told His disciples: "Go and make disciples of all nations TEACHING them to do all that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20, paraphrase).
We have our instructions. We have our Example. Now we need to study Him, other Old and New Testament communicators, and our audience/students as well, to know what and how to preach and teach. We need to learn to communicate truth in ways that enlighten our hearers and cause them to remember what has been taught.
In this class we will do just that. We will learn how to discern what God wants us to say; effective ways to organize and prepare our message; how to make our message interesting and relevant to our audience; and more. And we will look at other communication factors such as distinctive characteristics of various age groups.
This class is important for: parents who really want their children to learn at home (especially those teaching their children in a home school situation); those who would like to be Sunday School teachers; those who would like to teach teens and adults in Bible study groups — in short, anyone who wants to heed the call to teach and preach.

The content of this class will help students explore what the purpose of the local church is and why they need to be a part of it.
Part 2: How do I fit into the Christian community? Many Christians struggle to see their gifting and don't easily find a place of service and fulfillment in their local church.
