When you decide to take part in Into His Harvest you are indicating your desire to grow as a disciple of Christ — to grow closer to God, in personal maturity and in your ability to relate with and minister to others. To clarify and personalize those goals, and to establish a common understanding with your fellow participants, it's important that you consider the following Bible-based commitments.
By committing to this code of conduct, you are showing your willingness to be accountable. You can be sure that when you aim for “the stature that belongs to the fullness of Christ,” you can trust Him to guide and help you grow into His vision for you.
Commitment to Jesus Christ
-
As a participant in the Into His Harvest Christian training experience, my first commitment is to closely follow Jesus Christ, endeavouring to wholeheartedly obey His instruction to love God with my whole being and my neighbour as myself (Matthew 22:36-40; 28:19-20).
Commitment to Personal Integrity
Part of going Into His Harvest is bringing forth a harvest of righteousness for Christ. By God's grace I will pursue personal wholeness and purity as follows:
-
I will maintain purity of spirit by deliberately submitting to God and resisting the devil, shunning occult practices and seeking the help of the Into His Harvest Dean of Students in struggles with spiritual oppression, bondages and sin (James 4:6-10; 5:16; 1 John 4:1).
-
I will allow God to transform my soul by renewing my mind, rejecting carnal attitudes such as pride, unforgiveness, sinful anger, jealousy, lust, envy, etc., and expressing instead the fruit of His Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Romans 12:2; Galatians 5:16-23).
Commitment to Christian Community
Going Into His Harvest by definition involves relating with others. So far as it depends on me I will live in harmony with others, loving them unconditionally as God does. (See the first commitment above.)
-
I will keep my tongue from gossip, malicious comments, vulgar jesting and judging others, using it instead to encourage and edify even when confronting or correcting (Ephesians 5:4, 4:15; Romans 1:28-32; 2 Timothy 4:2).
-
I will make every effort to do what leads to peace and mutual edification, keeping in mind that my actions will affect other believers, young and old, amongst whom my training takes place. To avoid causing them to stumble in their walk with God (Romans 14), I will fast (abstain) from gambling and alcohol consumption.
Commitment to Growth Responses
-
I will avoid spiritually “draining” activities, exercising cautious judgement when choosing media presentations, games and entertainment with which to be involved (Colossians 2:8; James 1:27; 2 Peter 2:18-19).
-
I will accept and delight in the righteousness, peace and joy God gives as I follow Him into His harvest, knowing that the joy of the Lord is my strength (John 15:11; Romans 15:13; Acts 13:52; Nehemiah 8:10).
Note: When you apply to enter Into His Harvest, you will be asked to indicate your level of acceptance of these commitments.
